Emily and Tom’s backyard Cromwell wedding

Emily and Tom’s backyard Cromwell wedding | Ricky B Good | Queenstown wedding photographer.

Emily chose to get ready at the family home with her Mum, sister and closest friends. It was such a fun and relaxed vibe and everyone was having a blast!
The Cromwell sun was really beaming down on the day and we found some beautiful soft light in front of the house for a few fun photos and some beautiful bridal portraits with some native hand picked flowers from the area.

If you look up the word ‘relaxed’ in the dictionary you’ll find the definition is “Tom and his mates getting ready for his wedding day.” When I arrived there was some very casual ironing going on, a bit of pool being shot and just all around good times from these guys. This house had lots of cool timber and interesting light for me to get creative and capture some epic groom portraits and some ‘Reservoir Dogs’ style groomsman shots on the lawn with those nice harsh shadows.

The ceremony was absolutely perfect for the bride and groom, relaxed, intimate and colourful with a beautiful view of the river and old Cromwell town in the background. With Tom’s sister on guitar and these two reading their own vows I don’t think there was a dry set of eyes on the lawn.
After the ceremony everyone celebrated with some bubbles and we snuck away for a few bridal party photos by the water (which everybody wanted to cool off in!)

After the ceremony we went to the beautiful Bannockburn Sluicings to take some amazing couples portraits in New Zealand’s own Wild West landscape. Hiking into this desert in the full Otago sun was a great adventure, a brutal challenge that turned into so much laughter and fun. Hats off to the bride who was working through a sprained ankle! The journey was 100% worth it and we got some of my favourite wedding photos ever!

After their hike in the heat, the bride and groom were ready for a drink. We headed to the reception area for some drinks, some good food and some incredibly heartfelt speeches. Oh and Mr Whippy showed up! Originally I wasn’t scheduled to stick around for the party but I was having such a great time that I couldn’t resist hanging out to capture some epic dance floor shots of everyone having a blast!
